2010 Southeast Ecological Community Psychology Conference

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte

October 8-10th, 2010

 The conference will provide a venue to share research and discuss mutual interests among individuals from both applied and academic settings who are interested in community and social ecological issues.

Conference Theme

"Interdisciplinary & Collaborative Community Work."

Topics might include, but are not limited to:

-        Empowerment            

-        Mental Health

-        Health Promotion and Wellness

-        Culture and Diversity

-        Poverty and Homelessness

-        Civic Engagement and Advocacy

-        Community and Organizational Development

Potential questions and issues to address in presentations could include:

-        How do interdisciplinary characteristics impact graduate education?

-        How does collaboration impact community change?

-        What are the potential benefits or barriers to interdisciplinary/collaborative work?

-        Are there benefits or obstacles to interdisciplinary work for research and evaluation?

-        Are there examples of successful collaborative /interdisciplinary community engagements, programs, research projects, etc.?

-        What are tools to aid in collaborative work?

Please include the following when submitting your proposal:

-        Title of presentation

-        Author Name(s)

-        Academic status or professional title of each author (e.g., graduate student, faculty, undergraduate student, agency staff title, etc.)

-        Institutional affiliation of each author

-        E-mail address of each author

-        Format of presentation

o      Symposium

o      Poster

o      Panel Discussion

o      Workshop

-        Presentation Type

o      Original research

§       Abstract should include a brief description of the project, methods and findings

o      Field experience

§       Abstract should include brief description of project, lessons learned and contributions to relevant conference topics

o      Workshop

§       Abstract should include a brief description and goal of workshop activities

o      Other 

§       Please specify clearly

-        Presentation length

o      30-minute session

o      45-minute session

-        Equipment requests

o      All rooms will be equipped with screens and computer access to PowerPoint software.  If you need other equipment for your presentation please be specific in your request.

-        Abstract (should not exceed 250 words)

The conference will have social events on Friday and Saturday night and Sunday morning.  The conference will take place on Saturday, October 9th.

We have received several requests for proposal extensions and so we will be accepting them until August 31st!  Thanks to everyone who has submitted a proposal and we look forward to seeing you in October!
