Lodging and Travel

Find information on travel to and lodging at the 2015 Biennial.

Dorms Rooms

A few dorm rooms at the ICC are still available, and several individuals who have already reserved a room have indicated their willingness to share with a roommate. We have created two google docs that you can use to share info.

People interested in sharing a room for the conference can share their contact information via Google docs using this form.

If you're in search of a roommate(s), you can use this link to view contact information for people looking to share a room.

For those not comfortable with google docs, you may want to post your interest on the SCRA listserv using the title "SHARE BIENNIAL ROOM" or post to the SCRA Facebook page

Please note: These links only facilitate information sharing. Rooms MUST be booked separately. Given challenges that some have encountered with the online booking system, we encourage you to make your dorm room reservation by phone (978-934-6920). If this is not possible, please use this link.

Hotel Rooms

Although many hotel rooms in and surrounding Lowell are booked (there is another, very large conference in town at the same time), you can try one of the following hotels to see if they still have space or have had cancellations:

  • Chelmsford Radisson (shuttle service provide): (978) 256-0800
  • Courtyard Marriott Lowell/Chelmsford (shuttle service provided): (978) 458-7575
  • Towne Place Suites Tewksbury/Andover (no shuttle service): (978) 863-9800
  • Holiday Inn Tewksbury/Andover (no shuttle service): (978) 640-9000.

The Tewksbury hotels are several miles from the ICC. In general, our best advice to those booking a hotel room outside of Lowell is to rent a car. There will be free parking at the ICC for conference participants. You might also consider searching for local bed and breakfasts/Airbnb.

Travel to Lowell

If you decide not to rent a car, the Flight Line Shuttle will be your best option to and from both airports. Flight Line shuttles from Manchester are booked on an individual basis; shared-service shuttles depart from Logan every half hour (because of the greater volume). Flight Line is offering Biennial participants an approximately 13% discount. Rates also depend on the number of passengers, so you may want to coordinate with friends and colleagues who will be arriving around the same time.

To book shuttle service to and from either airport, which must be done at least 24 hours in advance of your arrival/departure:

  • Go to www.flightlineinc.com and enter SCRA2015 in the upper right hand corner where is says Rider/Discount Code (Log in).
  • The password is the same: SCRA2015.
  • Select either shared or private service, one-way or roundtrip fare, and the airport you will be traveling to and from.
  • The one-way fate to/from Manchester is $79.99 per person (which includes a 15% gratuity); shared-service rates to and from Logan depend on the number of passengers.
  • The system has been set up with the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center as "My location" for convenience. You can use the ID# to book shuttle reservations to and from other locations if you would like by selecting from the “other” option. For example, if you are staying the Radisson in Chelmsford, you can book this by selecting the "Hotel" drop down list and selecting the Chelmsford Radisson.
  • You will be given 10% discount no matter where you are traveling to or from using the SCRA2015 group code during you meeting dates.
  • Flight Line requests that you call their office once you have your bag in hand (1-800-245-2525). Office staff will confirm your reservation and direct you to the pick-up locations at the airport. As already indicated, the shared van service departs the airport every 30 minutes. Pictures and directions for all airlines and terminals are located on the Flight Line website under "Where to Meet Van".

If you would like to share a shuttle or cab from the airport, or would otherwise like to rideshare to and from the conference, we have set up a google doc here to facilitate this. Note that that there are worksheets for airport and non-airport ridesharing (see the tabs at the bottom of the Excel file).

Please note that, although it is possible to travel between Logan and Lowell via public transportation, this is not recommended due to the number of transfers involved and the limited schedule of the commuter train. The Lowell train station is distance little less than a mile walk from the ICC and further from the other conference hotels, which would mean additional time and expense. For these reasons train travel (i.e., via Amtrak) to Lowell is also not recommended.
