2011 Council of Education Programs - Call for Nominations

This is a call for nominations for faculty and students to serve on SCRA's Council of Education Programs (CEP). The CEP's mission is to support and advocate excellence in education in community research and action at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The CEP has representation on the SCRA Executive Committee.

The CEP's strategic plan includes three initiatives: 1) encourage information exchange between education programs; 2) provide support, advocacy, visibility, and enhancement of education programs in community research and action, including graduate and undergraduate programs; and 3) to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments and innovations of education programs in community research and action.

Specifically, in the past year we have been working on improvements to the SCRA website (e.g., developing a visual description of the various programs, creating a world map of programs, creating & posting videos), developing and maintaining relationships with programs around the globe to be sure we serve their education needs (e.g., liaisons initiative), collaborating with the Community Psychology Practice Council (CPPC) to enhance training and educational opportunities for community-based practitioners (e.g., CEP-CPPC Joint Task Group), contributing to educational content in publications like TCP and Eye on Psi Chi, developing tools for describing the field (e.g., handouts, powerpoint), working to promote community psychology in textbooks, collaborating with Idealist.org, and conducting, analyzing, and disseminating information from the program surveys.

The CEP meets monthly via conference call (for 1 ½ hours) and meets face-to-face annually. During the years of the biennial conference, we meet for a half-day prior to the conference and in alternating years, we plan a 1 ½ day mini-conference in the spring to address current goals and plan for the next year. The ideal candidates will be able to meet these commitments and join the other committee members in actively working on a couple of the initiatives.

The CEP is committed to promoting diversity in education. The slate will be devised to reflect the diversity and composition of member programs in the field of community action and research, and to reflect diversity of all kinds among faculty/students. This year the CEP seeks nominations for 3 faculty members to serve a 3-year term, and one student to serve a 2-year term. Self nominations are strongly encouraged!

Please complete and return the CEP Nomination Form (attached). Nominations should be sent to Tiffeny Jimenez at jimene17@msu.edu. Self-nominations please include curriculum vitae. Deadline for nominations is March 3, April 4, 2011.
