Announcement regarding the American Journal of Community Psychology
From Jacob Kraemer Tebes Editor, AJCP:
As many of you know, 2010 marks a transition in the editorial leadership of AJCP. After 13 years, Bill Davidson and the Senior Associate Editors (Meg Bond, Anthony D'Augelli, Margorie DeVault, David Julian, Catherine Kane, Mark Lipsey, Maritza Montero, and Roderick Watts) are officially stepping down from their senior editorial roles for the journal. Bill will continue to serve in an editorial capacity to cover submissions to the journal in 2009 and to oversee the publication of several special issues this year. In addition, the senior editorial team has graciously agreed to continue to serve as members of the journal's editorial board.
As we mark this transition, I want to thank Bill and this extraordinary group for their leadership of the journal. Over the past 13 years, AJCP has increased its impact within the field and expanded its reach to related fields, successfully managed dramatic growth in the number of pages published, significantly increased the publication of topical special issues proposed by the society's membership, and increased the journal's diversity as measured in terms of its content, published authors, reviewers, and editorial board composition. We owe Bill and the entire senior editorial team our sincere appreciation for their extraordinary contribution to the field and to SCRA.
Beginning in 2010, AJCP undergoes several changes. First, I would like to welcome a new team of Senior Associate Editors (Rebecca Campbell, Maritza Montero, Kurt Organista, Stephanie Riger, Emilie Smith, Roderick Watts, and Frank Wong). Yes, Maritza and Rod remain on the senior team, and I appreciate their continued service.
Second, as of January 2010, the journal officially accepts only online submissions. The portal for online submission through Springer's Editorial Manager system is: www.edmgr.com/ajcp. You'll notice that this is not the official Springer Publishing website for AJCP. Unfortunately, for several months, Springer has been in the process of a global web redesign that has made it impossible for the current AJCP website to be updated. I have been assured by them, however, that the redesign will be complete later in February 2010 and that the AJCP website will be fully operational by then with a direct link to the online portal. Nevertheless, the portal to submit manuscripts online IS operational, and authors (and reviewers) can access that portal through the above link.
Third, the journal has a completely revised set of "Instructions for Authors." These also can be found on the online submission link and they replace the current instructions that temporarily remain on the Springer AJCP website. The new instructions describe the different types of articles that will be published and the rationale for doing so. AJCP will continue to publish original articles and empirical reviews, but will also encourage the submission of three other types of articles: Mixed Methods Research, First Person Accounts, and Advancing Science. I strongly encourage prospective authors to read the new "Instructions for Authors" to learn more about these article types. All new submissions include page limits, and consistent with APA guidelines, authors of empirical studies are encouraged to report effect sizes and confidence intervals (which is actually required for Advancing Science articles). Prospective authors should contact me if they have questions about types of articles for submission.
Fourth, authors will now be able to submit electronic supplementary material (ESM) to accompany a published manuscript, and the submitted material will be stored on the Springer AJCP website as an archive. ESM may enhance several types of articles, such as those that contain rich, qualitative data that would be too lengthy to publish in print, and articles with additional relevant data tables or figures, curricula, data spreadsheets, intervention protocols or manuals, and multi-media (e.g., photos, video clips). Unfortunately, the ESM option will not be readily available until the Springer AJCP website is fully operational sometime in February 2010. Prospective authors who wish to submit ESM prior to then shouldcontact me directly to make arrangements.
Finally, individuals may also wish to view the new description of the journal under "Journal Overview" on the online submission link. This replaces the current description of the journal that temporarily remains on the AJCP website. The new description includes some of the new types of articles to be published in AJCP and incorporates content from the SCRA website.
I am excited and humbled to be serving as the new Editor of the journal. In collaboration with the Senior Associate Editors and the journal's distinguished Editorial Board, I look forward to interacting with you as authors, reviewers, readers, and colleagues.
