Call for Nominations: Editor, SCRA Publication Series
Nominations are invited for Editor of a proposed SCRA Publication Series. (Such a series might involve books, monographs, online content, or any combination).
The Mission of the Publication Series is to:
* demonstrate what community research and action has to offer in the solution of important social problems;
* promote the application of community research and action in ways that are accessible to a wide range of audiences; and
* promote the use of community research and action in ways that inform public policy that focuses on underserved populations, oppressed and marginalized groups, under-resourced settings, and the promotion of wellness and social justice.
It is expected that a successful Publication Series will help promote the visibility of community psychologists and the Society for Community Research and Action.
Applicants should submit: (a) a 2-3 page statement describing their vision for the Publication Series, including how such a series would reach beyond SCRA members to other audiences, including international constituencies ; (b) a 1-2 page statement describing their qualifications and what they would bring to the position of Publication Series Editor; and (c) a list of 3 references who might be contacted; references able to comment on qualities relevant to the position of Publication Series Editor would be especially helpful. The SCRA Publications and Electronic Communications Committee may solicit additional information directly from candidates to supplement letters of nomination. - The broad Mission of the Publication Series could be operationalized in a variety of ways. The Committee is open to considering a variety of approaches.
Interested individuals are invited to contact Roger Mitchell, Chair of the Publications and Electronic Communications Committee, with any questions, at roger_mitchell@ncsu.edu or (919) 513-2546. Letters of Nomination should be sent to Roger Mitchell at roger_mitchell@ncsu.edu by November 1, 2009.The SCRA Publication and Electronic Communications Committee will make recommendations to the SCRA Executive Committee regarding selection of an Editor.
The successful editor should have a broad understanding of community research and action, a record of publication, and experience with the editorial process. Consistent with the values of the discipline, the successful editor should have demonstrated commitment to and valuing of diversity, multiculturalism, and international perspectives.
The appointed Editor, with the assistance of the Publications and Electronic Communications Committee, will undertake the development of a detailed prospectus for a Publication Series (e.g., proposed audiences for books and/or monographs, possible organizational partners, proposed length of volumes, frequency of publication, proposed Editorial Board, and so on). With the assistance of the SCRA Executive Committee, the Publication Series Editor will take the lead in finalizing a contract between SCRA and a publisher. Such a contract would specify apportionment of anticipated revenues among stakeholders (i.e., Book/Monograph authors, the Editor and SCRA) in a manner that is most likely to result in a high-quality, sustainable series.
The term of office for the Editor is five years. As is the case with the American Journal of Community Psychology, the Editor and Editorial Board of the Publication Series will have editorial control over the content of the series, consistent with the agreed upon mission of the Publication Series. The Editor serves as an ex officio member of the Publications and Electronic Communications Committee of SCRA. The Editor is expected to provide annual reports on the operation of the Publications Series to the Executive Committee. Upon mutual agreement of the Publication Series Editor and the Executive Committee of SCRA, the Editor can be reappointed for additional terms.
Relevant information about the prospective Publication Series is available at http://www.scra27.org/about~2/leadership/publications. A web-based survey was conducted in Spring, 2009 to assess SCRA member preferences regarding a Publication Series, and the summary report is available here. In addition, a discussion forum has been established to encourage SCRA members to make suggestions regarding the direction of a Publication Series, whether they are interested in the position of Editor or not. All those considering responding to the Call for Nominations are strongly encouraged to review this material.
