Call for nominations for the next SCRA National Student Representative (NSR)
Greetings fellow SCRA student members,
It is with bittersweet pleasure that I make this call for nominations for the next SCRA National Student Representative (NSR). Lindsey Zimmerman of Georgia State University will be cycling off from her two-year term and we will vote to elect her replacement this July. During her 2009-2011 term, Lindsey started several initiatives to improve the SCRA web presence, worked to double the budget for student travel awards, and The Community Psychologist began to publish more student articles in each issue. We thank her for her service to SCRA in this role!
NSRs act as voting members of the SCRA Executive Committee. However, in addition to representing student members in budgeting and decision-making, NSRs are charged with soliciting and editing student submissions to The Community Psychologist, requesting and judging grant and travel award applications, and developing and executing NSR initiatives. The newly elected NSR will serve for the 2011 to 2013 term, which begins at the APA Convention this August. Overlapping two-year NSR terms allow the newly elected NSR to learn from the other representative who has completed one year of service. For more information about the position please review pages 27-30 of the attached Policy and Procedures Manual or contact current NSRs Todd Bottom (email@example.com) or Lindsey Zimmerman (firstname.lastname@example.org). (Please note that our voting procedure deviates from the Policy and Procedures manual such that we conduct the election online rather than by mail.)
Nominations for this position may come from a faculty advisor/mentor or interested candidates can also self-nominate. In addition to the nomination, potential candidates are asked to include a 400-500 word statement that includes biographical information, goals for his/her NSR term, past and future work regarding SCRA initiatives or in similar representative and leadership positions, and any other information deemed relevant by the candidate. Nominations and candidate statements should be emailed to email@example.com. The deadline for submitting nominations and candidate statements is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, July 8, 2011.
The election for Student Representative will begin on Monday, July 11, 2011. Statements from all student candidates will be emailed to students via the SCRA student and general listservs on that day. Additionally, the email will include a link to the online ballot, which will be administered via Survey Monkey. Candidate statements will also be included with the online ballot, and the poll will close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, July 25, 2011 (two weeks after voting begins). Election of the National Student Representative is by a simple majority vote, and announcement of the election results will be made via the listserv and SCRA website during the APA convention.
Please help spread word of this call by disseminating widely.
As always, thank you for your continued support of SCRA!
