This position is with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, one of the largest school systems in the country and would be a good opportunity for someone with evaluation experience.  The position has been very important in the interface between the school system and community researchers, including our Institute for Social Capital, which is compiling data from multiple sources, including the schools, to make it available to researchers.  The person currently in the position has a Masters degree in psychology, and he has been very successful in the position ( and a great community partner/collaborator).  I'd be happy to talk with any potential applicant about Charlotte, possible collaboration with the university, etc.

Work Schedule: 
Full Time - 12 MONTHS
Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education, psychology, sociology, public administration or related field; PhD preferred; focus in applied research preferred
  • Coursework in research design & methodology, statistics, testing and evaluation required, familiarity with descriptive and inferential statistics (ANOVA, HLM, SEM, etc.)
  • Eight or more years of increasingly responsible experience in educational research and evaluation, survey design and deployment, or other areas requiring analytical skills
  • Experience supervising professional research staff members, managing the work and responsibilities of direct-report research staff
  • Experience managing and conducting research or evaluation projects for start to finish
  • Knowledge of and experience using quantitative (inferential & descriptive) and qualitative methodologies
  • Skilled in the development and management of surveys
  • Ability to plan for the short and long term with respect to research deliverables
  • Ability to present and summarize research results to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to give direction and provide leadership
Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Chief Accountability Officer with the development of district-wide, comprehensive research initiative
  • Direct and coordinate the design, conduct, and publication (local or peer-reviewed) of research and evaluation studies
  • Direct the development and administration of assessment and survey tools in multiple formats
  • Review, critique, and be responsible for research and evaluation plans, projects, and results generated by Center direct-reports
  • Provide technical assistance in the analysis and interpretation of information, test results, evaluations and other indicators that are used in the formulation of policy, identification of areas of concern and needs, and serve as a basis for short and long-range planning
  • Serve as Accountability Department liaison on district initiative management committees
  • Form working collaborations with other departments to provide information, materials, and updates regarding research and evaluation projects
  • Oversee the review process for research proposals submitted by outside entities to ensure quality research is conducted in CMS schools
  • Remain current in the field of education research through review of journals and reports
  • Oversee the review process for program pilots proposals submitted by internal CMS staff and external entities (universities, private vendors) to ensure quality programs and products are placed in CMS schools
  • Manage and assist in coordinating the Research & Grant Committee to establish the research priorities for the Center for Research & Evaluation
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and manage access to district data sources for external partners, including consultants, university researchers, and non-profit agencies
  • Large relational database experience
