The DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY at SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for two tenure-track appointments as Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychology to begin August 2011. The first position may be in any area of psychology as long as the research focus is on diversity and/or disparities, broadly defined. The second position may also be in any area of psychology, but the research focus must be on cancer disparities. Opportunities for the cancer disparities position exist within the NCI-funded U54 Partnership grants held jointly between SDSU and UCSD, including membership in the UCSD Moores Cancer Center, access to relevant Moores Cancer Center resources, and opportunities to collaborate with scientists from the Moores Cancer Center. Strong preference will be given to candidates with significant extramural support and interest in developing and implementing research related to culturally diverse populations. The Psychology Department has an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology offered jointly with the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, University of California, San Diego; MA programs in psychology with emphases in behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, developmental, learning and cognition, physical and/or mental health research, and social/personality; an MS program in applied psychology with emphases in industrial/organizational and program evaluation; and a large and diverse population of undergraduate majors. Additional information about SDSU and the Psychology Department can be found at http://www.sdsu.edu/ and http://www.psychology.sdsu.edu/index.html

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in psychology or a related discipline. Successful candidates will clearly demonstrate research productivity with a record of peer-reviewed publications. The responsibilities of each position will include graduate and undergraduate teaching, as well as research supervision and mentoring.  The university and the department seek a diverse faculty. We seek candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds. SDSU and the San Diego research community beyond our campus provide a very rich environment for interdisciplinary and collaborative work. Applicants should send a letter of application, a statement of teaching and research interests, evidence of teaching excellence (including student evaluations, if available), curriculum vitae, no more than 4 reprints or preprints, and at least 2 letters of reference to: Chair of the Search Committee, Department of Psychology, San Diego State University, 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego CA 92182-4611. Please specify the position (either Diversity/ Disparities or Cancer Disparities) in the letter of application. Review of applications will begin on December 10, 2010 and will continue until the positions are filled. Salaries will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment is subject to budgetary considerations. SDSU is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against persons on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, marital status, age, disability, pregnancy, medical condition, or covered veteran status.
