DSI Investigator Development Initiative
The Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE; www.pire.org) promotes, undertakes, and evaluates activities, studies, and programs that improve individual and public health, welfare, and safety. In support of this mission, we create and support an environment within which skilled, innovative, and dedicated researchers and practitioners work to extend the leading edges of their respective fields.
Decision Sciences Institute (DSI; http://www.pire.org/centers1.asp?core=460&cms=95), a PIRE Center housed in Pawtucket Rhode Island, is seeking applicants for our Investigator Development Initiative. Applications are welcome from individuals who have completed their Ph.D. and are at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (or the equivalent if not in an academic setting). Previous grant or contract writing is required. The selected applicant will be expected to develop and submit at least one grant or contract proposal. He or she will be provided with office space, supplies, administrative and partial salary support, and funds to be applied flexibly toward the development of their grant or contract project. Travel funds are not available for applicant interviews, nor for relocation expenses.
The applicant’s area of research or programmatic interests should fall within the scope of PIRE as a whole, as well as the work carried out by DSI investigators. Recent DSI grant and contract work has focused on the role of social relationships and HIV risk behaviors in recovery from drug addiction, the evaluation of criminal justice diversion for trauma-exposed veterans, developing preventive interventions for underserved youth, psychopathology, examination of the impact of policies in behavioral health, and training and technical assistance and evaluation for community, state, and national prevention initiatives.
Applications are due by March 15, 2015. Start time is flexible within the 2015 calendar year.
Applicants are encouraged to contact a DSI investigator before applying. Contact information can be found on the DSI site (URL provided above). Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a two-page draft research plan including specific aims, abstract, proposed funding source and approximate total budget.
