Rutgers University School of Social Work (RUSSW) seeks a dynamic scholar to join our productive faculty in continued expansion of the School’s innovative programs, specifically our Center on Violence Against Women and Children. We plan to add a faculty member to our tenure-track faculty primarily at the assistant professor rank, though our search is open to candidates from all academic ranks. Candidates should demonstrate achievement consistent with their rank.

RUSSW seeks a highly motivated and productive scholar and an entrepreneurial and innovative thinker, who is committed to high-impact research, social justice, and social work education. We welcome applications from scholars across methodological traditions (quantitative, quantitative, mixed methods, community-based participatory research). The School is regarded for its strong commitment to both R1-level scholarship and to our tradition of community-engaged research partnerships. We are specifically interested in a candidate whose scholarship focuses on interpersonal violence among diverse groups and its relation to racism and other social and economic inequalities. The scholar’s work should connect micro-level variables to macro-level mechanisms in order to understand the causes and consequences of and solutions to violence, with the overarching goal of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their particular area of research.

We are dedicated to ensuring a diverse and inclusive faculty environment and especially welcome applicants from underrepresented groups. Faculty who join us will have the opportunity to work in one of the most diverse states in the nation and with a student body that represents a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities. Our faculty is an open and collegial group, with a commitment to the success of our junior faculty.

RUSSW, ranked #17 among MSW programs in the nation, is among the largest social work programs in the United States, offering BASW, MSW, DSW, and Ph.D. degrees to over 2,000 students across three campuses in Camden (Philadelphia metropolitan area), Newark (New York metropolitan area), and New Brunswick, which is the flagship campus. The School’s externally funded portfolio exceeds $47 million. RUSSW has several strong research centers, including the Center on Violence Against Women and Children, the Center for Prevention Science, the Center for Gambling Studies, the Center for Leadership and Management, the Huamin Research Center, and the Institute for Families, a multi-million-dollar partnership with NJ’s Departments of Human Services and Children and Families.

Founded in 1766, Rutgers is the eighth-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, and a major research university. Rutgers is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), a federation of 62 leading research universities in the US and Canada, and the Big Ten Academic Alliance, an academic consortium of Big 10 universities that collectively engage in over $10 billion funded research each year.

Outside the School, there are rich opportunities for collaboration with other professional schools at Rutgers, including the School of Public Health, the School of Communication and Information, the School of Management and Labor Relations, the School of Criminal Justice, the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research, and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, to name but a few.

Successful applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Social Work or a related discipline. Applicants should have strong methodological training, outstanding research achievements, potential for publication in high-impact journals, and excellent teaching and communication skills. Faculty members are expected to maintain an extramurally-funded research agenda, teach in the programs of the School (BASW, MSW, DSW and Ph.D.), supervise Ph.D. students, and engage in service to foster the missions of RUSSW and the University.

New Jersey offers a wide range of communities in which to live, easy access to major cities on the East Coast and Washington, DC, and a great quality of life.
