Open Letter to SCRA in response to Systemic Anti-Black Violence

Jun 04, 2020

Hello SCRA Community,

In response to the conversations that (keep) happening in SCRA regarding anti-Black racism we have crafted an open letter (which we invite you to READ IN FULL HERE) with an actionable (and imperfect, and incomplete) set of demands to the SCRA EC and our membership. We wrote this letter to demand accountability in addressing and dismantling anti-Black racism inside the organization of SCRA itself and in each of our Community Psychology programs that make up and train our membership base. We recognize that others in SCRA have been making similar demands and we attempt to reflect many of them in our letter and build on the sentiment that we have work to do internally, not only in our external facing work and in our relationship to the APA.

Please join us in signing this open letter to the SCRA leadership. We are asking the SCRA EC to respond openly on the listserve by June 19th, 2020 with an actionable timeline proposed to address the outlined demands.

IF SCRA WANTS THE CONTINUED SUPPORT AND MEMBERSHIP OF RACIAL JUSTICE-MINDED BLACK AND NON-BLACK FOLKS, THE ORGANIZATION NEEDS TO STEP UP AND THERE IS NO TIME LIKE THE CURRENT MOMENT.

If you would like to add your name to this open letter to hold SCRA leadership accountable to meeting these demands, please click here. If you would like to publicly do so, you may also hit reply all acknowledging your commitment. Our 40 colleagues who have already signed on to this letter include long time and early career CPers, practitioners, students, and faculty. They include current, future, and past members of SCRA, and all of whom believe in racial justice and a SCRA that can address and dismantle anti-Black racism within and beyond our bounds.

In Solidarity,
