GET IN CHICAGO
Post Doctoral Fellow
Position Description
Get In Chicago is an innovative public/private partnership whose mission is to identify, fund and rigorously
evaluate evidence-based programs that lead to a sustainable reduction in violence for individuals and
communities most affected by violence and poverty.
Get In Chicago is seeking candidates for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship. We are interested in appointing a
suitably qualified person (with a doctorate, or close to completing a doctorate) to a full-time Research
Fellowship for a fixed period of 12 months.
The Fellowship will focus on supporting the evaluation activities of Get In Chicago. Get In Chicago believes
that there is a dearth of solid research about what social service interventions “work” in fostering positive
outcomes for youth and families, especially in the specific context of Chicago. The Fellow will work with
Get In Chicago and its research partners to evaluate:
• Evidence-based programs that aim to lead to positive youth outcomes and a sustainable
reduction in violence
• Innovative programs that have not yet been rigorously assessed for efficacy and impact
• Investments in capacity building for organizations and communities
Get In Chicago works in partnership with faculty from the Adler School of Professional Psychology, UIC
Institute for Health Research and Policy, the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration,
the University of Chicago Crime Lab, and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago. The Fellow will be
expected to sort, organize and analyze data collected from programs funded by Get In Chicago and work
with the evaluation partners to determine the implications for the field of the findings. He/she may be
asked to compare our findings with those obtained in other research efforts. The goals will be to improve
funding decisions by private and public entities in Chicago and elsewhere.
The fellowship is open to scholars who have research experience in a relevant field. The annual salary for
2014-2015 will be $50,000. Deadline to apply is April 21, 2014, and the effective date for this appointment
is September 1, 2014.
A complete application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate school transcript
(unofficial transcript is acceptable for purposes of initial applicant review), one or more examples of
research and three references. Materials can be emailed to info@getinchicago.org or sent by mail to:
